Biography
Matrika Prasad Koirala (January 17, 1912 – September 11, 1997) was the first Prime Minister of democratic Nepal, serving two terms (1951–1952 and 1953–1955). He was the eldest brother of B.P. Koirala and a key figure in Nepal's transition from Rana rule to democracy. Matrika was the president of the Nepali Congress party and played an important role in the 1951 revolution. His tenure as Prime Minister saw the first steps toward establishing democratic institutions in Nepal. Though his time in office was brief, his contribution to Nepal's democratic beginnings is significant.
